- The Case for Rutgers School of Law–Newark
Rutgers School of Law–Newark has much to celebrate. We celebrate the more than 12,000 graduates who have played vital roles on the bench and at the bar, in business, government, and public organizations, throughout the state, the region, the nation, and increasingly, the world. We celebrate the opportunities to enter the profession that the law school has created for minority groups, women, the disadvantaged, and the newest immigrants. We celebrate the intellectual contributions of our faculty, which have opened entirely new ways of thinking in fields as diverse as constitutional law, criminal law, and corporate law. We celebrate our innovations in teaching, especially by our clinical program which has made it possible for students not just “to learn the law, but to help make the law.”
Despite the myriad reasons to celebrate, the sobering reality is that the instability of the stock market and the economy has left us with grave concerns about the future. As fiscal support from the state continues to decrease at alarming rates, we increasingly rely on private contributions from our alumni to assure a secure foundation for our continuing dedication to excellence and opportunity, to nurturing gifted scholars and legal advocates, and to promoting educational innovation and connection.
Our continuing objectives are to:
