Election Law Experts to Discuss Voting Rights, Voter Suppression on October 3
New state laws imposing restrictions on the ability to vote are described by proponents as an effort to curb voter fraud and by their opponents as an unconstitutional challenge to the fundamental right of eligible voters to vote.
On Wednesday, October 3, 2012, five election law experts will participate in a panel titled “Disenfranchise This: The Cost of Voter Suppression” at Rutgers School of Law–Newark. The event represents the law school’s annual First Monday participation in Alliance for Justice’s Student Action Campaign, programming on social justice topics held around the country each year in conjunction with the opening of the new U.S. Supreme Court term.
Following the panel discussion, Clinical Professor Penny Venetis will be formally named the Judge Dickinson R. Debevoise Scholar and Kathleen O’ Keefe ’94, whose practice specialties include Election Law, will receive the 2012 Eric R. Neisser Public Interest Alumni Award.
