Clarence B. Jones, Author and Former Confidante of Martin Luther King, Jr., to Deliver Miller Lecture on March 4

February 14, 2008 –

As former speechwriter, attorney, and confidante of Martin Luther King, Jr., Clarence B. Jones has a distinctive perspective on how Dr. King would relate his vision and ideals to today’s civil rights issues. In delivering the 2008 Paul S. Miller Distinguished Lecture on Tuesday, March 4, at Rutgers School of Law–Newark, Jones will draw from that relationship to offer what the civil rights leader’s responses would be to several current issues. The Miller Lecture, which will begin at 6:30 pm, is entitled “What Would Martin Say?” which is also the title of the speaker’s book that will be published by HarperCollins in April.

Clarence Jones has had a long and illustrious career in both the civil rights movement and on Wall Street. Twice recognized as Fortune magazine’s “Man of the Month,” he founded successful financial, corporate, and media-related ventures. He currently is executive advisor to the financial services firm Marks Paneth & Shron LLP and senior partner of Clemensen Capital, an investment banking boutique specializing in cross-border finance for Korea. Jones received his undergraduate degree from Columbia College, Columbia University, and his law degree from Boston University School of Law.
