March 10 Auction Aims to Raise Record Amount to Support Students With a Public Interest Summer Job
February 22, 2011 –On Thursday, March 10, 2011, the Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) at Rutgers School of Law–Newark will hold its Annual Auction to help support Rutgers students who do unpaid public interest work over the summer. The goal of this year’s student-run PILF is to raise enough money to award a summer grant to 25 students.
All alumni, faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend what is the social high point of the semester. PILF solicits auction item or monetary donations from Rutgers Law School faculty and staff, alumni, law firms, local and national businesses, and other friends of the school. Deans, professors, and staff act as auctioneers for items ranging from a week-long stay in a vacation home to tickets to cultural and sporting events. Go to http://pilf.newark.rutgers.edu/donate.htm to make a donation to this year’s auction or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
PILF grants enable students who otherwise could not afford to take these positions to obtain critical entry into the job market and advance the law school’s commitment to public service. Last year’s recipients worked at NGOs and public interest organizations in the tri-state area, across the country, and around the world, including the Documentation Center of Cambodia, the Urban Justice Center, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, San Francisco City Attorney’s Office, Community Legal Services of Philadelphia, and the American Friends Service Committee.
A special feature of this year’s auction will be the presentation by the Rutgers School of Law–Newark Alumni Association of Distinguished Service Awards to Professor Paul Tractenberg and Vice Dean Greg Mark. They will be honored for their steadfast support of the PILF auction and many contributions to the life and character of the law school.
