Professor Diana Sclar Named Allan Axelrod Scholar

March 04, 2010 –

Diana Sclar, Associate Professor of Law at Rutgers School of Law–Newark, has been named Allan Axelrod Scholar in recognition of her exceptional teaching and enormous influence on thousands of Rutgers law students. Professor Sclar is the first to receive the designation.

The title honors the late Allan Axelrod, a member of the Rutgers faculty from 1948 to 2007, who was regarded as one of the ablest, most penetrating, and most exciting law teachers of his era. A colleague of Allan Axelrod’s for 35 years, Professor Sclar shares his admirable flair for elucidating the basic concepts of Property to each new first-year class of law students. She also teaches Conflict of Laws and Federal Courts.

Professor Sclar earned her A.B., with distinction, from Stanford University and her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall), where she was notes and comments editor of the Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. Before joining the Rutgers faculty, she practiced law with a firm in San Francisco and with a federal government agency in Washington, DC, and was an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center.
