SBA-Sponsored Team Participates in Relay for Life Walk

On Saturday, May 16, a Rutgers School of Law–Newark team sponsored by the Student Bar Association participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Despite a poor weather forecast, many of the 81 registered student participants met at the Frank Sinatra Pier in Hoboken, NJ to join hundreds of others in the fight against cancer. 

SBA-sponsored team raised almost $8,000 in the Relay for Life walk.

Throughout the day, students took turns walking around the pier in a showing of solidarity and community outreach on behalf of the law school. In addition, the students gathered under the law school tent to dine on Italian delicacies, participate in additional fundraising activities, compete in impromptu games that only law students can invent, and sunbathe during the few moments of sun. 

Over the past several months, students at Rutgers School of Law–Newark raised $7,817 for cancer research and care. Overall, the event raised nearly $175,000 for the cause. 

The Student Bar Association and all members in attendance hope to see a Relay for Life team become an annual tradition for the school, providing a wonderful opportunity for the law school community to come together to give back to the community in which we live.
