Women’s Law Forum to Honor NJ Supreme Court Justice Jaynee LaVecchia ’79 at “Ladies Day” Program

November 04, 2010 –
The Women’s Law Forum (WLF) at Rutgers School of Law–Newark will recognize the contributions of New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Jaynee LaVecchia and other prominent women lawyers in the public sector at a special “Ladies Day” program on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. The program takes its name from the 1960s practice of a Harvard Law School professor to call on female students to speak in class only once a semester – on Ladies Day.

WLF will honor Jaynee LaVecchia, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, with its “Outstanding Woman Lawyer of the Year Award” for her trailblazing success and inspirational public service. Justice LaVecchia, Class of 1979, will also participate in a panel of women lawyers engaged in public service, government and the judiciary.

In addition, WLF will announce the creation of the Women’s Law Forum Public Interest Grant. The grant will be awarded to a Rutgers-Newark law student who is committed to public interest work on issues affecting gender rights.

There is an $8 charge for students and $20 for faculty and alumni/ae. For more information, contact the Women’s Law forum at ru.womenslawforum@gmail.com.
