POSTPONED: Women’s Law Forum to Recognize Women Committed to Pro Bono
For its annual “Ladies Day” celebration on November 5, 2012, the Women’s Law Forum at Rutgers School of Law–Newark will feature a panel of female lawyers who are engaged in significant pro bono work in the private, corporate or public sector.
The Women’s Law Forum will also honor Jessica Kitson ’02, who as director of the law school’s Neisser Public Interest Program encourages students on a daily basis to increase their pro bono efforts. As a Rutgers law student Kitson was a Wenk Fellow, editor-in-chief of the Women’s Rights Law Reporter, and co-founder of the Domestic Violence Advocacy Project. She is a former chair of the Public Service Section of the National Association of Law Placement, and serves on the New Jersey State Bar Association Pro Bono Task Force, the NJSBA Pro Bono Committee and the Essex County Domestic Violence Working Group.
The Ladies’ Day event traces its history to Harvard Law School in the 1960s when it was the only day on which then Property professor W. Barton Leach would allow female students to speak in class. Inspired by the evolution of the role of women in both law schools and the legal community, student groups throughout the country now use Ladies’ Day to commemorate women’s progress in the legal profession and to highlight the barriers women have overcome to become successful lawyers.
The price of admission, which includes the panel discussion, networking forum and post-event cocktail reception, is $10. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
