Lisa Ackerly Hernandez has joined Rutgers School of Law–Newark as Senior Associate Director of Development. She will work closely with Dean John J. Farmer, Jr. and Director of Development Ava Majlesi to advance the mission of the law school and increase support for student scholarships, faculty research, clinical activities, and new initiatives.
Hernandez is a 2005 graduate of Rutgers School of Law–Newark, where she was a Dean’s Merit Scholar, junior notes editor of the Rutgers Law Record, and co-chair of the Women’s Law Forum. In that last role, she developed a mentoring program between practicing women attorneys and women law students. After receiving her J.D., she worked as a litigation associate at Day Pitney LLP where she was active in the firm’s Women Working Together initiative and served on the recruitment committee.
Hernandez is currently a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at the Graduate Center at the City University of New York (CUNY) where she holds a Gilleece Fellowship and a University Fellowship. Her research is focused on women in the legal profession, law and social change, and work and family. While pursuing her Ph.D., she has worked at the National Council of Jewish Women of New Jersey – Essex County on marketing and community outreach initiatives and at the CUNY Graduate Center on the development of funding and research proposals.
Hernandez received her B.S. in business administration from Georgetown University.
