Crime After Crime, a film that draws attention to the many domestic violence victims and survivors who have been incarcerated over the years, will be shown at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Rutgers School of Law–Newark.
Joining the screening will be New Jersey State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, Senator Sandra B. Cunningham, and Senator Teresa M. Ruiz. A panel discussion will follow.
The award-winning Crime After Crime documents the story of Debbie Peagler, a woman who has been in prison for more than 25 years due to her connection to the murder of her abusive husband. The telling of her story brings to light the large number of domestic violence victims and survivors who have been incarcerated over the years. In view of such injustice, Senators Weinberg, Cunningham, and Ruiz will be sponsoring the Domestic Violence Justice Survivors Act (“Debbie's Law”) in New Jersey.
