On Friday, April 20, Rutgers School of Law–Newark will host a 40th anniversary conference on In re Gault, the U.S. Supreme Court case which held that juveniles accused of crime are entitled to the same due process rights, including the right to counsel, as adults. “The Promise of In re Gault: Promoting and Protecting the Right to Counsel in Juvenile Court” will feature national experts in criminal law and juvenile justice. Keynote speakers are New York University law professor Norman Dorsen, former president of the ACLU and counsel for Gerald Gault in the U.S. Supreme Court, and Patti Puritz, executive director of the National Juvenile Defender Center.
The conference is co-sponsored by the National Juvenile Defender Center, the Northeast Juvenile Defender Center, the Rutgers Law Review, and the Eric R. Neisser Public Interest Program of Rutgers School of Law–Newark.
