Ronald K. Chen, Acting Dean of Rutgers School of Law–Newark, has announced some new appointments at the law school.
Formerly Vice Dean, Chen was appointed to serve as Acting Dean while John J. Farmer, Jr. is on a leave of absence to serve as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Rutgers University. Joining Dean Farmer on a temporary basis in the University Counsel’s Office in New Brunswick are Senior Associate Dean Fran Bouchoux and his administrative assistant, Jessica Otero.
Following is Dean Chen’s announcement of those appointed to the newly-vacant positions:
“Professor Reid Weisbord has assumed the position of Vice Dean, including all the responsibilities traditionally associated with the academic dean. He brings to the position an enthusiasm and ability that will serve the law school well. Although Professor Weisbord has been with Rutgers Law a relatively short period of time, his contributions to the institutional life and cohesion of the law school community have identified him as someone who will help guide the future of the school for many years to come.
“Professor and Dean Emeritus Stuart Deutsch will fill in as acting Senior Associate Dean while Dean Bouchoux is in New Brunswick. He will supervise Admissions, Career Services, Student Affairs, and the Minority Student Program. Dean Deutsch obviously has vast experience in all aspects of the law school operations, and I am extremely grateful that he is willing to resume an administrative position and provide the continuity that is essential in providing those services.
“Mildred Perez, with whom many recent alums have interacted in her role as assistant to Deans Bouchoux and Andrew Rothman, has agreed to step into the role of administrative assistant to the Dean. She also will provide support to the Development Office headed by Ava Majlesi.
“While the reassignments that prompted these changes were unexpected and we are losing, if only temporarily, very valued individuals, I am confident that those appointed to fill their positions and the rest of the administration and staff comprise a robust team ready to help me lead Rutgers Law School into the future.”| Read Story
