Miguel Alexander Pozo ’98 Leads Team That Helps Bring HNBA National Legal Conference to New Jersey

December 13, 2011 –

When the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) holds its 3rd Annual Midyear Corporate Counsel Conference and 17th Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition in Jersey City from March 28-31, 2012, Miguel A. Pozo ’98, as Midyear Conference co-chair, will become a familiar face to the more than 750 judges, attorneys, public officials, and law students expected to attend from across the country.

Pozo, a litigation partner at Lowenstein Sandler PC, is already well-recognized in New Jersey. He received the 2011 “Professional Lawyer of the Year” Award from the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law, and in 2009 was named to the “40 Under 40” list of both the New Jersey Law Journal magazine and NJ Biz. A brand lawyer and business litigator who specializes in representing clients in the high-end, luxury goods industry, Pozo has more than 13 years of experience representing Fortune 500 corporations, businesses, and non-profit organizations in federal and state court litigation.

In addition to being co-chair for the Midyear Conference, Pozo is HNBA national finance director and leads the HNBA National Finance Committee, which consists of lawyers from across the country. The committee is responsible for ensuring the financial viability of the HNBA, as well as fostering relationships with HNBA sponsors and supporters.

The HNBA, one of the country’s largest professional organizations, represents the interests of more than 100,000 Hispanic attorneys, judges, law professors, paralegals, law students, and legal professionals nationwide. The theme of the conference is “New Jersey: Gateway to America,” and Pozo and other conference organizers proudly note that New Jersey, the host state for the 2012 Midyear Conference, is home to more than 75 major corporations and law firms as well as a very active Latino community.

Rutgers School of Law–Newark and its Minority Student Program will be well-represented at the HNBA Midyear Conference. U.S. Senator Robert Menendez ’79 is a member of the Honorary Host Committee and will deliver the keynote address at a reception on Ellis Island on March 30. Also, members of the Honorary Host Committee are U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas ’94, who will be one of the judges for the championship round of the National Moot Court Competition; former New Jersey Attorney General and partner at Lowenstein Sandler Zulima Farber ’74; Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes ’96; and New Jersey Assemblywoman Annette Quijano ’91. Additionally, Anna Maria Tejada ’99 has now become the new HNBA regional president for Region III (New Jersey), replacing Pozo who served in that role for four years.
